The Last Worlds: Crossed Souls (Demo)

The Last Worlds: Crossed Souls is an open-world action RPG reminiscent of games like Dragon Quest or Fable. It brings a lot of that nostalgic charm to life, though some punishing design choices make this a bit of a rough journey at times. It still offers a lot of fun, especially since exploring the vibrant alien planet of Ness-444 with the unique mechanic that lets you swap between the powerful Matwin and his agile companion Lupio at any time is highly enjoyable.

Pros:

✅ Gorgeous biomes and mysterious ruins make wandering through the world a total joy.
✅ Being able to swap characters on the fly adds variety to how you approach different situations.
✅ Solving fun environmental puzzles to open chests adds a nice mechanic on top of the exploration.
✅ There is a great selection of weapons and spells to unlock as you level up your character.
✅ Gathering resources increases your xp.
✅ Easy to learn weapon combos.

Cons:

❌ Combat can feel punishingly tough with steep difficulty spikes during encounters, especially in group of enemies.
❌ Enemies are too strong and hit too hard.
❌ Checkpoint placement is way too unforgiving, and having no autosave right before a major boss can mean replaying a whole segment if you fail (and if you don’t manually save before the fight).
❌ Resource collection becomes tedious over time because low tool durability forces you into a constant loop of gathering and recrafting that tool.
❌ The inventory menu feels a bit disorganized, tossing essential utility tools like the pickaxe in with your weapons and armor instead of giving them their own clean categories.
❌ There’s no quickbar, so every time you want to switch between a weapon and a tool you have to re-equip them.
❌ Equipped items take up slots in the inventory, which fills up very fast due to how many resource types exist.
❌ Health doesn’t automatically regenerate outside combat and there doesn’t seem to be a way to craft healing items at the moment.

Please note that these points reflect the state of the demo available on the Steam store in Jun 2026. The actual gameplay experience may vary upon release.
